Urban design has always inspired me. This summer, I was selected to be a Rising Urbanist by the Council for Canadian Urbanism (CanU). Thanks to this, I attended the Capitalising Design conference in Ottawa. I was impressed by the high level of engagement these professionals have for moving urban design forward in Canada.
A few highlights:
➡️Urban design being used to elevate the quality of public spaces in Ottawa. For example, the new Cliff Energy Centre, which includes a park. It promises to become a hotspot when it opens. That won’t be until the spring.
➡️I pitched launching Canada’s first resilience bond to help mitigate the impacts a flooding through urban design.
➡️The Hendricks Farm development in Chelsea, Québec integrates agricultural features like a community garden and laying chickens into a new neighbourhood.
I am delighted to have been a part of this experience. I have always admired this group and I am looking forward to being a part of the Vanguard cohort. Thank you to the organizers.
