La semaine dernière, j’ai assisté le congrès de l’Ordre des urbanistes du Québec à Drummondville, Québec. Je me suis senti bien accueilli à mon premier congrès de l’OUQ. Je remercie les organisateurs•trices pour leur succès avec l’événement.
Quelques faits saillants :
➡️Les impressionnants résultats de ROSEFELLOW. avec deux de leurs projets industriels où ils ont intégré la nature et les pistes cyclables.
➡️Un atelier au Fromagerie du Presbytere à Ste-Elizabeth-de-Warwick où on s’est renseigné sur les deux côtés de la médaille quand une entreprise située à une village connaît beaucoup de succès.
➡️Les similarités entre l’Ontario et le Québec en comment ils s’affrontent au manque d’offre de logement. Au Québec, Loi modifiant diverses dispositions législatives en matière d’habitation permet que les municipalités de 10 000 habitants et plus qui ont un taux d’inoccupation des logements locatifs est inférieur à 3% peuvent autoriser les projets d’habitation de tout type. En Ontario, la Loi pour des maires forts et pour la construction de logements octroient des superpouvoirs aux maires de 216 municipalités pour accélérer les procédures qui peut mener à la construction des nouveaux logements.
Le congrès était une belle opportunité pour connaître les urbanistes au Québec. Nous partageons plusieurs de mêmes défis, e.g. accélerer la construction des logements. J’ai hâte de revoir des urbanistes lors du congrès conjoint de l’OUQ et l’Institut canadien des urbanistes, FUSION, à Montréal en juillet 2026. Je forme partie du Comité consultatif de la programmation pour ce congrès.

Last week, I attended the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec conference in Drummondville, Quebec. I felt warmly welcomed at my first OUQ conference. Thank you to the organizers for putting together this successful event.
A few highlights:
➡️ROSEFELLOW.’s impressive results at two of their industrial developments, where they have integrated nature.
➡️A workshop at Fromagerie du Presbytere in Ste-Elizabeth-de-Warwick, where we learned about the pros and cons when a company in a village achieves a lot of success.
➡️The similarities between Ontario and Quebec in addressing the lack of housing supply. Quebec passed a law allowing municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants or more with a rental housing vacancy rate less than 3% to allow any kind of housing project. In Ontario, the Strong Mayors Act bestows special powers to the mayors of 216 municipalities to make it easier to provide the conditions that can lead to build new housing.
The conference was a beautiful chance to meet planners in Quebec. We share many of the same challenges, e.g. accelerating housing construction. I’m looking forward to seeing planners at the FUSION conference in Montreal in July 2026, which will be jointly organized between the OUQ and the Canadian Institute of Planners. I’m on the conference’s Progam Advisory Committee.
