A review of 2024. A preview of 2025.

As the year closes, I am proud of the projects that I have worked on. As I close the year, I reflect on these projects and how I would like to build on these advances in 2025. Here is an overview of my work this year:

  1. Research. At the Ivey Business School, we released Advancing Regenerative Agriculture in Canada: Barriers, Enablers and Recommendations in January 2024. There was a webinar about the report that is available here as a podcast. Work continued on a related report that will be released in 2025 that will have a Theory of Change.
  2. Urban Planning Consulting. With Ombrello Partnership, I worked on a prototype in Montreal for a financial instrument to protect urban natural assets in Canada. This project came out of my major research paper at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Master of Planning in Urban Development program. Our team is hopeful about this financial instrument’s future in 2025.
  3. Becoming a Registered Professional Planner. I obtained the RPP designation in Ontario in October 2024. It is issued by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. I have interests in practising planning in parks, transit and housing.
  4. Guest Lectures at Universities. I gave guest lectures at Carleton University, Western University and la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. At the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University, I spoke about ESG ratings. At Western University, I presented on financial tools for ecosystem services, green infrastructure and community-based environmental projects. The topic at Toronto Metropolitan University was about networking. I am available for guest lectures in 2025.
  5. Community Leadership. I am co-managing an edible food forest in Vaughan. We have planted native species of trees, shrubs and herbs. We are planning new activities for 2025. This is currently Vaughan’s only food forest.
  • An exciting announcement! I will be starting a quarterly newsletter called The Intersection starting in mid-January 2025. It will have updates about my work and content on a timely matter affecting urban planning or sustainable finance. Want to sign up? You can do so below. ⬇️

As we meet for end-of-year gatherings to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or to usher in the new year, I wish you peace and relaxation. And, if doing it on your own is your speed then, I hope you recharge. Here’s to a nice end of year and a happy 2025.

Season’s Greetings from The Urban Hulk!
